LINDEN – Melvin R. Willis, 84, died at 7 a.m. Friday at the home of Mrs. Paul Linn, Rt. 13, Lafayette. He had resided there for six months. Previously he had resided with a daughter, Mrs. Delton E. Eubanks of Lafayette. He was born May 4, 1884, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Willis at Berksville, Ky. He was educated there. He married Myrtie Haire on Dec. 29, 1905. She preceded him in death on Dec. 6, 1955. Mr. Willis and his wife moved to Tippecanoe County in 1907, where he farmed until 1957 when he retired. He was a member of the New Richmond Christian Church and of the Farm Bureau. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Bea Oliver of Wingate, Mrs. Ruth Haywood of Romney, Mrs. Raymond Summer of Tuscon, Ariz., and Mrs. Delton E. Eubanks of Lafayette; two sons, Ira S. of Hopkins, Minn., and Richard of Lafayette; a sister, Mrs. Russell Small of New Richmond; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Helms Funeral Home at Linden. Rev. Jack Williams will officiate. Burial will be at the Sugar Grove Cemetery in Tippecanoe County. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday. – jlr
